Arizona Rodeos

If you’re visiting Arizona to see some of its natural desert wonders, be sure to visit some local western rodeos. In addition to the many outdoor activities available, Arizona also offers many well-known rodeos. Some of these are considered the oldest rodeos in the world, so you won’t want to miss them.

Prescott Frontier Days - World’s Oldest Rodeo

Running for 137 years, the Prescott Frontier Days is recognized as the World’s Oldest Rodeo. It’s held at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds every year at the beginning of July.

This historic rodeo is a PRCA sanctioned event with professional rodeo events. You will see steer wrestling, bareback riding, tie down roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, bull riding and even a wild horse race. There’s also women’s breakaway roping and women’s barrel racing sanctioned by the WPRA.

Prescott Frontier Days brings exciting entertainment for the full week. Come early before the rodeo to shop, eat good food, and listen to live music.

World’s Oldest Continuous Rodeo - Payson Pro Rodeo

The Payson Pro Rodeo brings Arizona the Best of Rodeo with an experience of a lifetime. Come see an unforgettable night show of Championship Bull Riding and special events for the whole family. In addition to the Rodeo weekend, there’s a parade, mutton bustin’, live music, and food.

Payson Pro Rodeo claims the title of World’s Oldest Continuous Rodeo. It started in 1884 in a rough and tumble town. This classic western rodeo began with local cowboys competing in roping, riding and racing events. Now, the World’s Oldest Continuous Rodeo continues to grow into an unforgettable event that everyone can enjoy.

Rodeo Scottsdale

Also known as the Parada Del Sol Rodeo, Rodeo Scottsdale has been held annually for 72 years. This March, you can enjoy four days of exciting rodeo events, including the Bull Riding-only performance on Thursday night. 

The main rodeo performance showcases eight thrilling events. There’s saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, tie down roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, team roping and bull riding. You will also see PRCA specialty acts during the main performance, as well as a rodeo clown.

Fulton Homes’ The West’s Most Western Rodeo

If you miss Rodeo Scottsdale in the spring, you can still catch their new show this fall. Fulton Homes’ The West’s Most Western Rodeo is coming to Scottsdale, Arizona for the first time in 2024. It’s a three day event sanctioned by the PRCA Rodeo. The West’s Most Western Rodeo brings all of the same excitement as the March Scottsdale Rodeo, with eight professional events, specialty acts, and a rodeo clown. The rodeo in September won’t have Thursday’s Bull Riding-only performance, but the rest of the weekend will be action packed.

Cave Creek Rodeo Days 

At the end of March, you can attend the 48th annual Cave Creek Rodeo Days. It’s a weeklong celebration of western heritage that you won’t forget. There will be a parade, mutton bustin’, rodeo dances, and a cornhole tournament.

Cave Creek Rodeo Days also highlights three days of professional PRCA rodeo performances. One of the most popular performances is the “All Bulls, All Night” event. This performance showcases bull riders and bullfighters in a full night of rodeo excitement.

Proceeds from Cave Creek Rodeo Days help support charitable organizations, as well as maintain the Cave Creek Memorial Arena. You’ll enjoy a week of western fun for the whole family, while also supporting the community.

Black Rodeo

One of Arizona’s largest and most popular cultural events is the Black Rodeo. This newer rodeo started in 2011 and is one of the “Hottest Shows on Dirt.” With over 10,000 rodeo fans, Black Rodeo is growing to put on shows across even more states.

Black Rodeo goes on in August for a weekend of fun and exciting western experiences. It’s a culturally rich and educational rodeo designed for the whole family. Black Rodeo promotes appreciation for cultural heritage and celebrates African Americans shaping the history of the west.

Gold Rush Days & Senior Pro Rodeo

In February, you can go to the Gold Rush Days & Senior Pro Rodeo. This annual event celebrates Wickenburg’s western origins as a ranching and gold mining community. 

Gold Rush Days was founded 76 years ago, and continues to bring thousands of visitors to Wickenburg for four days of fun. There will be a family fun carnival, activities, an artisans fair, a parade, a classic car show, and gold panning. And of course, you won’t want to miss the Senior Pro Rodeo along with all of the other exciting activities.

La Fiesta De Los Vaqueros Tucson Rodeo

Another February rodeo to see is La Fiesta De Los Vaqueros Tucson Rodeo. With Tucson history since 1925, this rodeo has been running for 100 years. In addition to the main rodeo showcase, you can also enjoy cowboy church, the Chicks n Chaps rodeo clinic, mutton bustin’, a jr rodeo, and a daily barn dance.

The Tucson Rodeo hosts six exciting PRCA events. There will be bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, tie down roping, team roping and bull riding. The WPRA sanctions the womens’ barrel racing event. You won’t want to miss seeing which all-around cowboy will be crowned for winning the most money in these events.
